Are you about to replace your missing tooth with a dental implant? If so, our Art & Science Family Dentistry dental team has some tips for you to help you prepare for the treatment. For the best treatment possible, we encourage you to do the following things:

-Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you have as well as any medications you are taking, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs and supplements. If you have orthopedic implants or certain heart conditions, Dr. Kinney and Musser might prescribe antibiotics before surgery to help prevent infection.

-Consider your anesthesia options. Generally, your options include local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia. It’s best to talk to your dental professional and discuss which option is best for you.

-Your dental team will give you specific instructions on what to eat and drink before surgery. Make sure you follow those instructions.

-If you are going to have a strong anesthetic, it’s best to ask a family member or friend to take you home after the appointment. The anesthetic will be too strong to allow you to drive.
